But the 82-year-old actor’s publicist confirmed he’s dealing with shingles, a painful viral infection known for causing an itchy or burning rash. While it often appears on the chest or back, any outbreak is enough to put a serious dent in anyone’s schedule — even a Hollywood legend’s.

Shingles can cause fatigue, headaches, and a general sense of feeling unwell, which is the last thing you want before hitting a red carpet event. The NHS notes that the condition results from a reactivation of the chickenpox virus, and it’s definitely not something you’d want to try to power through. Ford’s doctors likely advised him to stay home and rest.
