Dwayne Johnson Opens Up About Devastating Family Loss. ‘I’ve Been Numb’

Dwayne Johnson, also known as “The Rock,” recently shared the heartbreaking news of his French bulldog Hobbs’ death.

The 52-year-old actor, producer, and former professional wrestler took to Instagram to honor his beloved pet.

He posted a series of photos showing the special bond he shared with Hobbs. The pictures captured moments of Johnson using Hobbs as a pillow, receiving sweet doggy kisses, and playing with him around the house.

In his emotional post, Johnson expressed his deep sadness, saying, “I’ve been numb over this loss, but we’re so grateful for every ounce of pure love he gave our entire family.” Although he did not reveal the exact cause of Hobbs’ death, he mentioned that his dog did not suffer long and passed away quietly and bravely in the night.

The post was set to George Strait’s song What’s Going On In Your World, which Johnson felt was fitting. He wondered about Hobbs’ new world and shared his hope that Hobbs’ spirit might visit him occasionally, so they could share laughs again.

Hobbs had been a part of Johnson’s life for nearly a decade. The dog was not just a family pet but had also appeared in one of the Fast & Furious movies in 2019.

Johnson even joked that Hobbs was “the biggest star the Fast & Furious franchise has ever seen” in a past Instagram post. The little bulldog also joined Johnson for a cover shoot with GQ magazine in November 2024.

Johnson’s journey with Hobbs began in 2015 when his family adopted two French bulldogs. He shared this joyful moment on Instagram, introducing Hobbs and his brother Brutus to the world. He named Hobbs after his Fast & Furious character, Luke Hobbs.

Soon after bringing them home, the puppies provided an unforgettable memory by jumping straight into the pool. While Hobbs paddled like a natural, Brutus sank to the bottom. Johnson, showing his fatherly instincts, quickly jumped in and rescued Brutus.

Unfortunately, tragedy struck just a few weeks later. Brutus died after eating a toxic mushroom that damaged his liver and immune system beyond repair.

Johnson made the difficult decision to end Brutus’ suffering, sharing his grief on Instagram. He also warned pet owners to be careful with mushrooms in places where their pets play, as they can be deadly.

With Hobbs’ passing, Johnson finds comfort in believing that Hobbs and Brutus are now reunited in “doggie heaven,” chasing each other and sharing joy once again.

Through his heartfelt posts, Johnson showed not only his love for his pets but also the deep emotional impact they had on his life.
