The case brought by Jack Smith regarding the events of January 6 against President Donald Trump may not have progressed as it did without covert support from the Biden administration, as indicated in a recent letter from two Republican senators. Smith, who previously served as a special counsel and has a long history with the Justice Department, has maintained that he operates as an impartial enforcer of the law, devoid of political influence. However, the letter from Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) to FBI Director Kash Patel and Attorney General Pam Bondi suggests that Smith allegedly received assistance from the official counsel of President Joe Biden, raising significant questions about the fairness of the prosecution.
The letter claims that the White House Counsel’s Office was responsible for obtaining the cell phone records of both President Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence, which were subsequently provided to Jack Smith as part of “Arctic Frost,” his preliminary investigation into the Capitol riots of January 6, 2021. Whistleblowers associated with the investigation informed the senators that Smith, along with other FBI officials who were reportedly antagonistic towards Trump, played a direct role in this data transfer. Senators Johnson and Grassley urged Patel and Bondi to fully cooperate with their requests for further information.
“Overall, these newly revealed emails demonstrate the significant collaboration among select FBI agents from the Washington Field Office and prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington D.C. to strategize, authorize, and implement Arctic Frost,” Grassley and Johnson stated in a letter obtained by Just The News.
The emails also reinforce the notion that ASAC Thibault was instrumental in pushing for the transition to a full field criminal investigation, despite concerns from other agents that the evidence available only warranted a preliminary inquiry,” they added. “Finally, the emails highlight the direct involvement of the Biden White House in supplying information regarding former President Trump and former…”Senators Grassley and Johnson, with the latter holding the position of chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, disclosed that they had obtained whistleblower emails indicating that John Crabb, the Criminal Chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, reached out to Jonathan Su, who was then serving as Deputy White House Counsel, on May 2, 2022. The senators noted that the email also included Timothy Thibault, who was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge at that time.
Crabb’s message stated, “Jonathan, would you please coordinate with Tim Thibault (who’s copied on this email) about picking up the telephones.” Su responded, “Thanks, John. Tim, it is good to meet you, and please let me know what works for you in terms of timing over the next couple of days.” Subsequently, two days later, the FBI retrieved the government-issued phones belonging to Trump and Pence from Biden administration officials, despite Trump not being a target of the Arctic Frost investigation at that point.
The lawmakers emphasized, “To fulfill our constitutional oversight duties and to ascertain who subsequently designated former President Trump as a criminal subject in this case, we reiterate our request for your offices to provide all DOJ and FBI records related to the Arctic Frost investigation.” They requested that all relevant documents be submitted by April 21st.
