New COVID Wave Surges — Health Officials Sound Alarm As Cases Double

COVID-19 cases are rising again, showing the virus hasn’t faded into the background. Since January, cases in the UK have more than doubled, with the positivity rate increasing from 2.2% to 4.5% by early April.

Hospitalizations in England have also gone up by 7%. Experts warn against complacency, especially for those who haven’t had a recent booster.

Vaccines still offer strong protection—people recently vaccinated are over 40% less likely to be hospitalized.

Common symptoms include sore throat, cough, fatigue, and congestion. The UK’s spring booster campaign runs from April 1 to June 17, targeting those 75+, care home residents, and people with weakened immune systems.
