Second child dies after ‘poisoned Easter eggs’ sent to family

A second child has died after allegedly eating poisoned Easter eggs sent by a woman seeking revenge on her ex-boyfriend. Mirian Lira from Brazil received the eggs with a note saying, “With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.” She shared them with her children, Luis (7) and Evelyn (13).

Luis fell severely ill and died on April 17. Evelyn and Mirian were hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning, and Evelyn later died on April 21 from vascular shock and organ failure.

Police arrested Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, ex-girlfriend of Rafael Silva (the children’s father), after identifying her on security footage buying chocolate while wearing a wig. She denies poisoning the eggs. Authorities suspect jealousy and revenge as the motive. Mirian remains in stable condition in hospital.
